PACK EXPO 2026: Skincare Line Changeover Questions

PACK EXPO opens in Chicago. Skincare buyers can use machinery demos to ask for bottle-changeover records, first acceptable units and format-specific trials.

PACK EXPO International opened at McCormick Place in Chicago on October 18, 2026 and runs through October 21, according to the organizer's opening announcement. For skincare brands planning more than one bottle or pack format, the event offers a timely reason to ask a practical question: what happens between the last acceptable unit of one format and the first acceptable unit of the next?

What the organizer has announced

The October 18 opening release describes machinery operating at the show and a program spanning packaging materials, printing and other production technologies. The organizer's cosmetics and personal care overview specifically includes filling, labeling, inspection and line flexibility. These are opportunities to compare approaches; the event announcement does not establish that any particular machine or supplier can handle a buyer's formula and packaging.

Buyer interpretation: look beyond steady running speed

Our interpretation is that a demonstration becomes more useful when it includes a defined format change. A line running smoothly on one bottle leaves unanswered questions about a shorter bottle, a different closure or a revised label. Ask the equipment supplier or contract manufacturer which changes the proposed configuration can accommodate and which require different parts or a separate trial.

For example, a brand considering two serum bottles could ask for a documented trial using both proposed container and closure references. Agree the material used in the demonstration. If it is a substitute for the intended formula, record that difference and ask what further testing remains. A water-filled demonstration alone is not confirmation of the actual product's filling performance.

Define the start and finish of the changeover

Ask how the supplier measures changeover time. Does the clock start when production stops, when materials are removed or when mechanical adjustments begin? Does it end when the line restarts or when the first unit meeting the agreed checks is produced? A duration is difficult to compare without these boundaries.

Request a record of the actions between those points: component replacement, adjustments, setup verification and the checks used before release. Ask which tasks can be prepared in advance and which require the line to stop. Keep the procedure tied to the two actual formats being compared, rather than accepting a general claim of fast changeovers.

Four items to request with the trial result

  • Format references: identify the container, closure, label and product or test-fluid versions used in each run.
  • Acceptance criteria: agree the checks for filling, closure application, label placement and coding with the responsible technical team.
  • Startup record: ask how many units were produced before acceptable output was established, and which adjustments were needed.
  • Open work: list tests, change parts, operator training or documentation still needed before the intended production arrangement can be confirmed.

Turn a demonstration into a project-specific follow-up

These are proposed buyer questions, not reported performance results from PACK EXPO. Use the same trial brief when comparing responses, and keep technical acceptance separate from commercial discussions. Ask for the scope and cost of any additional trial before relying on the demonstration in a launch plan.

When reviewing the Lanthome skincare categories, identify the product and packaging formats you want to compare. Submit a sourcing project for review with those references, your destination market and the trial evidence you need. Production arrangements, supporting documents, minimum orders and lead times require confirmation for the selected project.
